THOMCONT modular slaughterhouse: An expandable production solution for the food industry
Kometos has developed a slaughterhouse module designed to meet the space requirements of the food industry, which can be easily expanded to include cutting and packaging operations.
The 42 m² modular Thomcont slaughterhouse facility includes efficient process equipment as well as HVAC and refrigeration systems. The delivery encompasses facility design, construction, installation, commissioning, technical training, and process training. Kometos’s maintenance and spare parts services ensure efficient and long-lasting operations.
The facility’s slaughter and cooling capacity is six to eight cattle per day. The slaughter line is designed for cattle with a live weight of 800 kg. Staffing requirements are 2-3 slaughterers and a veterinarian. With a 4-5 month delivery time and relatively modest investment costs, the facility makes it possible to start slaughterhouse operations even on farms and as “village slaughterhouses”.
Hygiene comes first
Thomcont facilities are built in accordance with EU food and hygiene regulations. Production and equipment hygiene is a central part of slaughterhouse operations, monitored and maintained through the self-inspection system included in the delivery. The facility consists of four spaces, with by-product and social areas available optionally:
- Stunning, bleeding, and slaughter area: 25 m²
- Cooling area: 13 m², technical room: 1.5 m²
- By-product processing area: 25 m²
- Social facilities: 25 m²

Built on the durable and hygienic sandwich element
The module’s frame structure is made of Kometos’s specially manufactured steel tube frame, with wall and roof structures consisting of food-grade self-supporting sandwich elements. The surface material is fire-retardant-treated fiberglass laminate, with antibacterial treatment on interior surfaces. The steel tube framework forming the load-bearing part of the floor slab is welded to a steel-reinforced concrete foundation.
Customer responsibilities:
- Obtaining building and environmental permits
- Official inspections
- Foundation work according to Kometos’s instructions and drawings
- Bringing and connecting electrical and water connections to the module’s technical room
- Drainage outside the module
- Yard work and any fence construction
- Storage and disposal of by-products
- Procurement of facility monitoring and alarm systems
