A unique dosing solution boost ready meal production

Customized dosing solution boosts efficiency in the ready meal production line: Up to 90 portions per minute

Kometos’ client, a prominent ready meal producer, sought to enhance their dosing processes to meet the rising demand of read-to-eat meals. Kometos provided the right solution: a customized component dispenser that significantly increased the client’s production capacity – without compromising dosing precision.

Challenge: Increased production capacity needed – standard solutions fell short

For their new factory, the client needed a dosing system that prioritized speed, reliability, accuracy, safety, and customization. The production line, installed in a new facility extension, was designed to increase production, enabling three trays to be dispensed simultaneously, up from the previous two-tray setup.

Unlike competitors who offered standard solutions, Kometos, with its agile and tailored approach, could design a solution precisely aligned with the client’s unique needs.

Solution: A customized dosing solution for unique requirements

Kometos responded to the challenge by designing a fully customized, volume-based component dispenser for the factory. The three parallel dispensing heads now produce 90 portions per minute, substantially increasing production capacity. Two dosing systems were installed: one for soups and one for stews.

Achieving this outcome required meticulous planning and testing. Initially, a weight-based dispenser was suggested to meet the client’s efficiency goals, but tests at Kometos’ factory revealed it did not achieve the required precision. After further testing, a volume-based dispenser proved more accurate.

Kometos’ Sales Manager Tommi Wirtanen describes the testing process at Kometos’ facility in Finland:

“Over four years, we’ve tested over a hundred food items for more than 20 clients from Finland and abroad, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, the Baltics, and Sweden. We’ve run everything from herring to pasta to various salad ingredients – quite the range.

– Safety first: Safety switches, emergency buttons, and protective guards prevent hands from reaching hazardous areas. Cleaning safety was also prioritized, with durable engraved nameplates and splash protection.

– Minimized errors: Adjusting portion speed and size is easier, and recipe information remain stored in the system, eliminating risks from manual adjustments.
