Raimo Niemi 1955-2025

In deep sadness, we announce that the founder, long-time CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Kometos Oy, Raimo Niemi, has passed away.

Raimo Niemi founded Kometos Oy in 1991, and his work is visible in everything we have achieved over the years. Our personnel, partners, and customers will surely remember Raimo for his uncompromising approach to work, his dedication to the development of the food industry, and his energetic character — both at work and on the racetrack.

Our family will remain actively involved in the company, and operations will continue as normal. For the time being, operational matters at Kometos are handled by COO Ossi Viljanen, and the work of the Board is led by Vice Chairman Juha Sarkkinen. Although Raimo’s passing was sudden, the organization has been preparing for this transition over the past months as he bravely battled cancer. So we will carry on, respecting his legacy.

Edit 10/2025: The operational matters at Kometos are handled by COO Ossi Viljanen until 31.10.2025. After that, Deputy Managing Director Kirsi Niemi will assume responsibility until a new CEO has been appointed.
